Watts was born 28 September 1968. She made her debut in film in Australia in
For Love Alone (1986), followed by three television series: Hey Dad.. (1990),
Brides of Christ (911) and Home and Away (1991) and Flirting (1991). Watts
moved to America in 2000. She struggled initially as an actor. In fact she was
able to fill minor roles in films prior to becoming an actor in David Lynch's
Mulholland Drive psychological thriller. This film helped propel her to
international fame. Watts was later a gruelling journalist in the horror film
The Ring (2002). In her role as a grieving mother , in the Alejandro film 21
Grams, she was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress. Her profile
continued to grow through her starring parts in I Heart Huckabees (2004), King
Kong (2005), Eastern Promises (2007), as well as The International (2009). As a
character in Maria Bennett in the disaster film The Impossible (2012), Watts
received an additional Academy Award nomination for Best Actress. She appeared
in films, such as Birdman (2014) St. Vincent (2014) and While We're Young
(2015). Watts was also a prominent character in blockbuster movies, appearing
in Divergent (2015)-2016.
